Due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, I did not discover until Thursday March 12, 2022 late morning that I was required to have my income tax filings in by Friday, March 13, 2021. before 5pm.
I called the facility that had my tax filings but they did not pick up the phone. I did then receive an email. Unfortunately, there was no way to have Fed-Ex pick up a copy of my income tax filings because I had to physically be at the location with an ID.
So I had to choose between going to pick up my nomination petition on Thursday, and then have to figure out how to get my taxes to Sacramento by both picking them up and delivering them to Sacramento all on Friday before 5pm, or take care of my income tax filings on Thursday and then have about 8 hours to come up with about 100 petition signings. The caveat being that Norwalk is not that far from the Orange County border and signature petitions have to go to the correct county registrar or they are not counted.
Ultimately, I did not want to lose such an expensive filing fee of over $4,000 dollars and not even qualify, so I will be proceeding as a write in candidate. I will still be adding content to this page on a regular basis.
When I saw on Television that recall petitions of George Gascon was being held in Whittier the next day I cringed since Whittier is close enough to Orange county that signatures could end up being sent to the wrong city and be disqualified.
Basically, the Secretary of State's office never got back to me when I called in January regarding the process of running for Governor. Then, another State run agency that had my income tax filings was also unable to talk to me directly and although they did a great job having my income taxes ready when I got there, I did need better telephone support than what I got since I sent about 3 emails that went unanswered and that delayed me long enough to not be able to pick up my Petitions on Thursday. Maybe it was an inadvertent blessing as the $4,300 dollars I did save I can stretch a long ways.
